Welcome! Here you'll find a database of information that'll help you get the most out of your Hot Rod Deluxe. After years of searching the internet I was dissapointed that there was no real source of information on this amp—yet it remains one of the most popular in the world. For a long time building a Hot Rod Deluxe website was one of the things I wanted to do, and felt needed to be done. Listening to techs, experimenting with electronics, and talking with other owners inspired me to collect a large source of mods, tips, tricks, fixes, and frequently asked questions to help you on your way to finding *your* tone. In case you haven't guessed, I have no affiliation with the Fender Musical Instruments Company. Right now this site is in the process of being built, so enjoy what's here and stop back every once in a while—more is to come. =)

"The Hot Rod Deluxe is, as far as we know, the best-selling tube amplifier of all time."
- Shane Nicholas, Marketing Manager for Fender amplifiers
Welcome to the new search feature!
October 26th, 2005: Whoops! Hot Rod index page was erased for a few days because I accidently uploaded another index.html file into the wrong directory. Sorry about that!

March 22nd,2005: I've been working on adding Steve Laybutt's mods to the site, and they're up. Check under the Mods menu.
I also fixed some broken links that were caused when Fender moved their customer support to their main website. You guys need to tell me these things so I can fix them!
I am now answering questions at the friendly http://www.thefenderforum.com. I hope to see you there!

December 18th, 2004: Well I've finally completed all my homework for this semester, and wow has it been crazy. I'm going HOME for the holidays, as their closing our halls in a few hours. So I've got to go. I'll be around, and I'll get around to answering all the emails ASAP.
Happy Holidays from the campus of EKU,

July 29th, 2004: I'm adding a site map of the important pages to this page, mostly so Google will be able to add all my pages to its search engine. Being that all the pages are linked via a javascript menu Google overlooks them, so only a few of my pages are on Google. I need to get as many on there as possible, preferably all of these, so that the new search feature works correctly.

May 8th, 2004: For those of you who email me! The return time for emails has been as quick as 15 minutes and as long as two weeks. I've very sorry, but sometimes I get really busy and forget. If for whatever reason you've emailed me and I don't email you back, don't give up and take it personally! Sometimes I'll check my email, realize that my reply is going to take some time and thought, and put it off for when I have more time. It then gets buried under other emails/spam and I accidently forget about it. So if I don't email you back within an acceptable time, judged by yourself, feel free to send me another email to remind me—I promise I won't get angry! Seriously, I try to respond to all my emails, but they sometimes pile up very quickly. So if I don't email you back send me a reminder—I promise I'm not ignoring you!
You can email me anytime by clicking the "Send Me Feedback" button on the left. I keep it exclusively in the javascript menu because there it's invisible to spammers who use search engines to find personal emails.

January 4th, 2004: The Hot Rod site is one year old today. =) I was hoping I'd have it finished by now, but no such luck. Let's hope it's around for many more years.

December 29th, 2003: I've gotten a lot of emails complaining that the white text on black background is hard to read, so I've decided on this "faded newspaper" look instead. Hopefully this will be much easier on the eyes. Over the next few days I'll be updating, revising, and trying to finish all my pages. Check back for more tips and even greater detail. Updated pages will be converted to the new look.

December 16th, 2003: I may be slow returning emails the next month or so. I just finished up the final two weeks of an intense semester, so now I'm going home for about a month. While there I plan on working on several new pages as well as revising many old ones—all during my spare time, so when they'll be uploaded may be sooner or later. I'm a hardcore perfectionist so don't hold your breathe!

September 24th, 2003: Spotlight on Vintone's Hot Rod Deluxe head. This is a very sharp looking piece of art. To see A LOT more pics of this head, as well as some other neat mods, click the photo below! Very nice work Doug, and thanks for letting me add this to my site.

August 25th, 2003: I've included a bunch of new sound clips of my Hot Rod Deluxe, Fender Concert II, and my hot-rodded "Made In Japan" Strat. Take a listen here. I'll try to find time to make recordings of my other guitars in the next few weeks.

May 22nd, 2003: Several NEW versions of the Hot Rod Deluxe have appeared in this month's Musician's Friend catalog. All Hot Rods are now available in blonde tolex, previously only the Blues Junior was. There have also been two versions of a Limited Edition Hot Rod Deluxe made. Neither have a tolex or tweed covering, but a solid maple cabinet with one of two types of finishes. One is a sunburst style reminiscent of early strats, the other a more natural finish. According to MF, "about 300 units" were made. Both come with a Jensen C12N speaker. Click the links above to see pictures.

April 24th, 2003: It's official! Fender has released a lacquered tweed version of the Hot Rod Deluxe with a Jensen P12N alnico speaker. Expect to pay around $160 more for this version. Special thanks to IkilledKenny54 from the FDP for the nice pictures!

April 18th, 2003: RUMOUR HAS IT.. Fender will be shipping a laquered tweed HRDx with an AlNiCo speaker later this spring. If you haven't done so CHECK OUT THE AMP LINKS IN THE TECHNICAL LINKS MENU. There is a ton of priceless info that's actually USEFUL. I learned quite a bit of my technical knowledge from those links. Other than that, I've added a bit of info to my tubes page and messed with the color schem here and there.

April 8th, 2003: Check out the new page "Quieting the Beast," on how to lower your Hot Rod's volume to a managable level. It's located in the FAQ. I hope everyone likes the new menu. Special thanks to Milonic for allowing me to use their cool menu free of charge! A few of my pages don't work, but there was nothing there anyway. I have the replacements saved on a different computer so I'll upload them this weekend.

January 13th, 2003: I was sitting here watching the Roger Waters - In the Flesh DVD, listening to Wish You Were Here, when low and behold what appears on the screen, but a Hot Rod Deville! (The guitarist in the picture is Doyle Bramhall II.) Who says these are mid-level amps? Both Steve Van Zant (Bruce Springsteen's guitarist), and Don Felder (The Eagles lead guitarist) use the HRD series—as well as many other professional musicians.
